1. Read the instructions for your booking
Open your provider account and the confirmation for the exact test you booked. Write down the local date, check-in time, address or online joining route, and any separate speaking appointment. Check that the product and delivery format match your application's requirement. Save the official support route and identify any discrepancy while there is time to resolve it.
2. Check the actual identification document
Inspect the document you will physically present: name, expiry, photograph and any required signature. Then read the provider's rules for your citizenship and test country. For example, Pearson requires a valid passport for PTE Academic taken outside your country of citizenship. Do not substitute a phone image or assume that a document accepted for travel is accepted for every test.
3. Rehearse the route or the room
For a centre appointment, check the exact building entrance and estimate travel time at the relevant hour. Add a buffer for unfamiliar transport. For an eligible online appointment, complete the provider's equipment and room checks on the same computer and connection you intend to use. Resolve problems through official support before the appointment; a practice website is not an equipment clearance.
4. Pack from the provider's rules
Make two lists: required items and items to leave or store. Check the specific rules on phones, watches, stationery, drinks and note-taking; they differ by test and delivery method. If you need an approved adjustment or access arrangement, confirm it appears in the booking instructions. Keep the required ID accessible rather than in a bag you may need to put away.
5. Use a calm final practice
On the preceding day, review familiar instructions and two or three recurring errors. Avoid treating a new, difficult mock result as a last-minute verdict on your ability. Prepare ordinary meals, travel essentials and a realistic sleep schedule. On arrival, follow staff or proctor directions. Report an equipment issue when it occurs instead of trying to repair it in a way the rules prohibit.
6. Close the loop after testing
Save any official incident reference and check the provider account for result instructions. Confirm how scores must reach your institution and monitor receipt rather than relying on an expected date alone. For your study notes, record process issues such as pacing or fatigue without reproducing confidential test questions. Use these observations if you later decide that another attempt is worthwhile.
